I was making cashew nut cream the other day and thought, I wonder if I could make a chocolate smoothie that feels like a real treat and is totally healthy. Here it is! I happened to make it in the morning, so I’ve added oats to benefit from their slow releasing energy. It really did fill me up until lunch! Drink very slowly and savour every second!
NB: Simply use bought cashew milk if you don’t have time to make your own.
Ingredients
- A Good handful of cashews that have been soaked overnight in 250ml water, or placed in 250ml boiling water and left for 2 hours.
- If you haven't got time for this, just buy some cashew milk and pour 250ml into your blender.
- 2 Juicy pitted dates
- 2 Tbsp of raw cacao powder
- 1 Tbsp Agave Syrup
- 2 Tbsp Porridge Oats (if GF make sure they are labelled Gluten Free, see my article here)
Instructions
If you are following a gluten free diet, make sure your oats are Gluten Free, see my article here
You will need a high speed blender for this recipe.
If you are making your own cashew milk, allow the nuts to absorb the liquid and plump up. If not, just place everything in a good blender. A multi-task blender like a Vitamix is perfect for this job to cream the cashews and chop up the dates well. Place on a medium to high setting for 3 minutes or so to make sure everything is blended well, pour into a glass and enjoy!
Thanks Josie. Choc smoothies fab breakfast treat. Sally
